Does this change what you recommend?
No. Here's our rule, and we mean it:
- We recommend products because they work and are well-reviewed — not because of commission. Half of our top advice (dump standing water, fix screens, use a fan) involves buying nothing at all.
- Our flagship free guide — the DIY bucket trap — has no purchase button, because you shouldn't need one.
- Every product page lists the honest downsides (“drawbacks”), not just the upsides. If something is a supplement rather than a solution, we say so.
Why disclose this so loudly?
Because the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires clear and conspicuous disclosure of affiliate relationships, and the Amazon Associates Program Operating Agreement requires it too. More importantly, you deserve to know when a link might earn us money. So we put a short disclosure right next to every affiliate button, not just buried on this page.
