This policy explains what mosquitoes.nyc collects, why, how long we keep it, and how to get it deleted. We keep it in plain English on purpose. Short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the pilot, we never sell your data, and you can have it deleted anytime.
What we collect
Pilot signups
When you join the pilot, we collect what you type into the form:
- Your name and email address
- Your street address or block (to verify neighborhood eligibility)
- Your neighborhood and type of outdoor space
- Your baseline survey answers (bite frequency, standing-water sources, current measures, and a 1–5 severity rating)
- Optionally, how you heard about us and any notes you choose to add
- Your follow-up survey answers later, if you fill out your report link
Analytics
If analytics is enabled, we use a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool (Vercel Analytics) that measures aggregate page views and events (like affiliate-link clicks) without tracking you across sites or building an advertising profile. We do not use advertising cookies.
Why we collect it
- To run the pilot: verify eligibility, ship traps, send setup instructions and seasonal check-ins.
- To measure whether it works: your baseline and follow-up surveys power the before/after signal.
- To show neighborhood stats: we publish aggregate-only figures on the scoreboard.
What we publish publicly
The public neighborhood scoreboard shows aggregate data only: counts per neighborhood, average baseline severity, and the share of participants reporting improvement — and only once a neighborhood reaches a minimum number of responses. We never publish names, emails, addresses, or anything you write in a free-text field. Your written notes are read only by the pilot team.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data, ever. We share it only with the service providers that make the pilot function:
- Our database host (Neon) stores signup and survey records.
- Our email provider (Resend) sends pilot emails.
- Our hosting provider (Vercel) runs the site and optional analytics.
How long we keep it
We keep pilot data for the duration of the pilot program and up to 12 months afterward so we can analyze results, then we delete or fully anonymize it. You can ask us to delete your data sooner at any time (see below).
Your choices & deletion
- Unsubscribe: every pilot email includes an unsubscribe path. Reply “unsubscribe” and we'll stop emailing you.
- Delete my data: email hello@mosquitoes.nyc and we will delete your signup and survey records within 30 days (usually much sooner).
- Access or correct: email us and we'll share or fix what we have on file.
Children
The pilot is for adults (18+). We don't knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. Material changes affecting pilot participants will also be emailed.
